Today was our last meeting to finish our presentation. And we finally started and finished our keynote. While Nicole was making the presentation, Esther, Olivia, and Harold practiced saying their parts. We also timed all together but it took us more than seven minutes. So Olivia shortened our script by deleting the parts that we don’t have to say. Also, Ms. Thorne gave us a bit of an extension for time, so that was helpful as well. Finally, we added some finishing touches to the bibliography because we added some new pictures.

Today we finished writing our script for our presentation. So now we only have one step left which is making the keynote. While Olivia and Esther worked on the script, Nicole went over the work we did so far and edited. When she finished, she worked on the bibliography. We didn’t used any websites on the Internet for our research so Harold found out a way to cite a interview. *click 'Read More' to read more
Our group started working our presentation today. First, we planned out our presentation on pages. Then, we worked on our last step, which is writing a script. We are going to continue working on it on next meeting. While we were working, Mr. Willis came to check our work. He gave us feedback on our tables and work we did so far. He recommended we add more detail to our tables. After that, we made more changes to Pros and Cons of filtered water, tap water data, and our group plan while continuing writing our script. We did a lot of work today. Nicole finished writing the pros and cons of using filtered water which we attempted to discuss with the other group but didn’t go that well. After that, she listed all the questions that Mr. Musco might ask during our presentation so we could have an idea what the opposition might argue. We also got some information about BPA from Hilary that could help our research. Esther and Harold calculated the money we spent on electricity for a year and combined with the pie chart we made before. Olivia is made a short video that includes little pieces of all the classes we went to survey. *click 'Read More' to read more
Today we went to five classes to survey, G3SY, G8WN, G8JS, G5AB, and G5JN . We went around school interviewing classes during the second period and the first twenty minutes of the third period. It was our last day of interviewing. After the survey, Nicole made a table of the answers to our survey. She also made a table and pie chart for the water tasting test. We also talked about the ‘real cost’ of tap and bottled with Mr. Arnold. After our conversation, Harold took notes. We are going to use the information for one of our reason for ‘why we should use filtered water’. Olivia found pros and cons of bottled water and filtered water while Harold found what was in the criteria we needed to accomplish. Olivia’s going to work on the video some more, while Nicole takes down more notes. That’s pretty much it! *click 'Read More' to read more
Our group went to survey many classes today. We each had our own job to do. Olivia asked questions, Nicole took a video of the survey, Esther counted people who raised their hands, and Harold recorded the data. Specifically today we went to G4AH, G10DD, and part of G7. We are going to more grades and survey as Nicole is still making appointments with teachers. Once the surveys were done for the day, Olivia began making a full video of what we had done. That’s posted below (click the read more button) if you want to watch it. We also moved on to our next step, which is researching filters and maintenance. While researching, we took notes and made tables of each design. *click 'Read More' to read more
Today, we had a huge change between our group and the other Tap vs. Bottled water group. Christian switched with Olivia, so she came to our group! After this, in the second block, Mr. Arnold looked at our tables and gave us feedback. Then, we moved on to the second step of our plan, which was changing the tables into graphs. Olivia worked on Watsons water graphs and Harold worked on tap water graphs. We also went to Ms. Debby to find out the total number students and staff in our school. After lunch, we continued working on graphs. We are also planning to survey one class from each grade (with the exception of Grade 8), so Nicole sent a group teachers in each grade an email. If you look below at the iCal picture, you can see we've already made appointments! EXCITINGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! *click 'Read More' to read more
During our second meeting, we planned out each of the steps that we are going to take for our project. In the following block, we talked about uploading our documents to the water project website and filling out our contracts and ‘gathering sources’ document. After we finished filling out our contract, each of group member signed it. We also changed our roles. Nicole is now our leader and secretary and Esther is the Weebly reporter. We sent our table to Nicole and she going to doubled check our data tables and combine them together. During the first meeting, our group made a purpose statement, brainstormed research questions to help our research. Then, we got bills of both Watson water and Water Supplies Department that our school used. We categorized every bill into a table. Christian and Harold collected data from Water supplies Department bills and made a table. Nicole and Esther divided Watson water bills and made a table. We had many questions about the bills because there were more than one bills each day and other discrepancies. At the end of the day, we probably didn’t do much besides the purpose statement and questions, but we’ll work on it more individually. |
